How I Work With You

My work rests on the recognition that what God has done in giving us His Son is bigger and more impactful than we are experiencing. In working with an individual or with a couple our sessions are looking forward and grounded in hope. That gives us room to:

  • Hear your story and gently test the fears and false beliefs you've been carrying

  • Look at past trauma and failure in a new light

  • Name the strengths in your relationships and build on them

  • Ask together where God may be leading you

I admire anyone who takes the step of starting counseling. Honesty and steady effort in our sessions make a big difference.

Background

My training began with a BA in Psychology and a master's degree from Stanford University. I later earned a BA in Theology, then a Master's in Counseling and a certificate in Spiritual Direction from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

I  spent more than twenty-five years working with teens and young adults, and I care about helping them make sense of faith in a confusing world. I've served as a missionary in four countries, including nearly four years in Japan, and taught in Christian secondary schools for thirteen years. My theological perspective is Trinitarian and Incarnational. I've been married since 1988 and have three grown children, which helps shape how I understand the work of marriage, parent, and family counseling.

I see clients through Venture Church in Mill Creek.
